History of the Club

How did this company start? it started with two new owners...

"Around the time that we took over 'The Corn Exchange', we were quite involved in the Derby pool scene - me as a player and Ian Hood (Joint Owner) with his sons - so we spent a significant amount of time at the corn playing in leagues, competitions and county." (Tom Couchman, Joint Owner)

"We both thought that the frequent changing of ownership, intermittent opening and gradual decline in quality of tables was becoming frustrating. When the opportunity arose we decided to give it go with the long term aim of improving facilities and reinvesting constantly in the club. We are driven to provide the best playing conditions possible." (Ian Hood, Joint Owner)

What was the original aim we set out to achieve?

with a basic bar and a crazy layout and decoration, we gave the bar the professional finish the sports bar deserved! it has always been "a home away from home" for all regulars! we wanted to ensure we kept that safe and secure environment going, whilst making a professional place for all customers, new and old, a place they could rely on for top quality!

Highlights of how far we are prepared to go!

We have hosted Live Streamed Matches from money matches between world known professionals (whom come to our tables for practice) to tournaments lead by some of the best coaches the country has seen!!

What has changed since? Students and Partnerships .....

We have made a strong relationship with the University of Derby and even sponsor their Student Squad of decent players in their national tournaments!

With students coming to Derby for university, away from home for the first time for most, that "home, away from home" has never had a truer meaning!

we welcome people from all backgrounds, which makes this a perfect place for the "Pool and Snooker Club" to get together and bond over the game that we all love!

Our place in the History Books....

The Corn Exchange is proud of its buildings roots, keeping the building as original as possible on the exterior. Whilst on the inside, adapting to the best of our ability to make the inside look fresh and clean.
